more about “Relient K – Sleigh Ride
It may be a little early still for Christmas songs (not for those of you who konw me) but I still think it’s good to share. There you go.

Everyone is at least somewhat familiar with what the Christians regard as faith. It is communicated boldly in countless sermons, sung with passion in numerous songs, and finds itself as a pivotal word in the religious world. However, I think this topic has been overlooked and poorly understood by many people today (including myself). Throughout his book, Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis has shed some light on this topic in a way that has helped me to further understand what having faith truly means. As simple as it may seem, faith is one of the most complex topics I know; it is able to weave itself into one’s daily life without being recognized immediately, it can be lost in less than a blink of the eye, and it is simply difficult (and nearly impossible without Help) to master. Lewis has been helpful by providing an analogy saturated with truth and applicability:

“Now faith, in the sense in which I am here using the word, is the art of holding on to things your reason has once accepted, in spite of your changing moods.” (Lewis, 140)

Lewis addresses two key words in his statement that are essential to understand in order to further one’s thought process with this analogy. Read More »

Folk music has not always been on my playlist; It has not always been part of my music library or in my CD collection. Recently I stumbled upon this band and was pleasantly surprised by its folkesque ring. More accurately, Rue Royale’s music might considered as “pop-folk”, but any label you put on it won’t make much of a difference. I just like the stuff. The combination of harmonizing vocals, subtle and effective guitar, and soft indie style, give the music a nice feel. Not something you stumble across everyday. Read More »

Spring EP

It’s clear to see that the San Diego’s frontman has been well seasoned with his release of Spring, one of his three solo projects within a year. His previous works, Fall, and Winter, have been available for a while now, but Spring is a fairly recent addition to the acoustic cluster of Jon Foreman’s work.

The album starts out with a quite “bouncy” feel creating an almost polka type experience. He has added a small horn section that gives the song an almost sophisticatedly comical taste. It’s a light-hearted approach to the beginning of the EP that is pretty effective at generating interest. Read More »

-Shane Claiborne

I haven not finished reading Jesus For President, but so far it seems like a very good read. Not your stereotypical “Christian” piece of literature. I was immediately drawn to the book by it’s youthful layout. It’s a book decked out and overridden with design; one of the things that is really attractive to me. Not only does the author have something to say, but is conscientious about expressing those words through images and art that make the reading very enjoyable.

I really like the art in this book, and it might be easy to think that I like the images more than the actual words themselves, but the book is a really good read. The language is bold and sophisticated, but easy to read and comprehendable at the same time. Claiborne puts many perspective of American and world politics into the spotlight; maybe a spotlight that is not (stereo)typical of today’s culture. It brings different views to many of the ordinary politics we see today. Claiborne captures the essence of the book very well in the subtitle: “Politics for Ordinary Radicals”. It’s interesting to see an analysis of the ways in which politics played a role in Jesus’ time, and the way in which He countered those politics with His very own. If any person is to be considered “radical”, Jesus might (but certainly) fit that idea.
